Week 22a – Be yourself, everyone else is taken.
We have all heard this sentiment many different ways over the years. However, until reading Emerson’s paper titled Self-Reliance I thought this was just a cute remnant from the “Do your own thing” days of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.
What I see now is the basis of societal evolution! ( in most cases)
How else could we have moved out from caves to build dwellings? From walking to riding wild beasts to driving multi-horse powered vehicles to flying million pound thrust rockets to the moon.
Conformity explains nothing and adds less. By simply being the status quo we create nothing, we do nothing, in reality we are nothing. How’s that for a slap in the face?
Definition – Create – verb; to make or produce (something) : to cause (something new) to exist. : to cause (a particular situation) to exist.
We are here to Create, to re-create, to pro-create, to Create!
Definition circa 1968 – Quantum Mechanics– the dreams stuff is made of.
Our place in this time and space is precious. To leave it just as we find it is nothing less than an insult to our Creator. If we don’t enhance our world others will and by default we become followers when we have all been born leaders.
Emerson explains “In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts…Great works of art…teach us to abide by our spontaneous impression with good-humoured inflexibility then most when the whole cry of voices is the other side. Else, tomorrow a stranger will say with masterly good sense precisely what we have thought and felt all the time, and we shall be forced to take with shame our own opinion from another.”
How often have we thought of something and then our ego says we could be embarrassed, humiliated, shunned by the world so we stifle our creativity? Then we see OUR IDEA presented by another who didn’t let fear stop them and we are forced to conform to what was ours in the first place!
This is the shame of silence.
Start today to live each moment, share each moment. “Power ceases in the instant of repose, it resides in the moment of transition from a past to a new state.”
I am nature’s greatest miracle. And I enjoy life’s greatest oxymoron…
I am unique, just like everyone else!
